Masataka Mori
Master and Chief Instructor, EIGHT DAN
Shotokan Karate-do OF
New York

Born in 1932, Masataka Mori hailed from the port city of Fukuoka on the northern shore of Kyushu island, situated in southwest Japan.

At the age of eighteen, he enrolled at the renowned Takushoku University, from which he eventually graduated in 1955. Thus introduced to karate-do at the University, Mori studied the art intently, honing his technique and spirit. In 1957, he joined the Japan Karate Association; his years of dedication have earned him the title of Sensei in the eyes of karatekas, and that of Master in the Shotokan association.

After serving five years as the JKA chief instructor of Hawaii, Mori Sensei was then appointed as the regional chief instructor of North America. His official dojo, the Shotokan Karate-do of New York, is located in northwest Manhattan.

Often viewed upon as a true samurai, Mori Sensei holds the traditional spirit of karate at heart. He has mastered the Shotokan discipline in all areas of kihon, kata and kumite. He travels all over the world to perform karate seminars of great sizes.

Several times already, Mori has visited Nuns' Island JKA and has also attended the fifth anniversary of the club in October 1999.
